Harvest of the awareness campaign on “Hereditary Genetic Diseases and their Relation to Consanguineous Marriage” at the Egyptian Russian University

Within the framework of the university’s role in raising awareness among the students on caring for their society, and assuming their responsibilities through positive participation in initiatives and voluntary work to effectively contribute to the advancement of the nation, a campaign was implemented for a whole week under the title “Hereditary Genetic Diseases and their Relation to Consanguineous Marriage.” The campaign was carried out under the sponsorship of the University President, Professor / Sherif Fakhry and the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Professor / Mohamed Ehab Fattouh, and in cooperation with the Community Development Committee and the Institute of Human Genetics and Genome Research at the National Research Center. The campaign aimed at raising awareness and knowledge among the community members about genetic diseases, their relation to the marriage of relatives, and their effects on the individual and society.
The campaign included the distribution of awareness posters and leaflets by volunteering students among the university members. The campaign activities also included a visit to the factory of Univert Food Industries Company in Badr City. The campaign delegation was received by the company CEO Engineer / Mohamed Asaad Khaleel. An educational symposium for field awareness was held for the factory workers about what is meant by genetic diseases, how they occur, the factors that lead to an increase in the chance of their occurrence in the marriage of relatives, the role of the Center for Diagnosis of Genetic Diseases at the National Research Center in detecting these diseases, and the importance of early detection before marriage in order to reduce the rates of the occurrence of these diseases and to keep the society safe.
