In the International Competition for Scientific Innovations at the Egyptian Military Academy. The project of the smart self-driving electric car for students of the Faculty of Engineering at the Egyptian Russian University obtains the 6th place at the universities level

Dr. Sherif Fahkry Mohamed Abdel Nabi, President of the Egyptian Russian University, announced that the students of the “Mechatronics and Robotics Engineering Program” at the Faculty of Engineering at the university won the sixth place at the level of the Egyptian university faculties participating in the “International Competition for Scientific and Engineering Innovations at the Egyptian Military Academy” which was held from 23 to 25-07-2024 in the presence of his excellency the Minister of Defense and Military Production …. Noting that the students of the Faculty of Engineering participated in the competition with the support of Dr. Mohamed Kamal El-Sayed Mustafa, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the University, within the framework of the university administration’s interest in the practical and applied aspect in addition to the theoretical aspects, and encouraging students to scientific research and innovation, and opening the way for them to participate with their ideas; In solving some community problems, in addition to the university’s keenness to invest in students’ graduation projects and participate in local, regional and international exhibitions and competitions in the field of specialization aiming at enhancing the spirit of innovation and creativity and motivating them to transform their ideas into successful commercial projects..

The President of the Egyptian Russian University added that the winning students’ project passed the first stage of the qualifiers for the best (130) applicable projects, then the project passed the final stage of the qualifiers for the best (10) projects, then obtained sixth place at the level of Egyptian universities noting that the university administration provides continuous financial support for the annual releases and updates of the smart electric vehicles project, which is one of the university’s research directions and within the framework of building an integrated educational research environment for useful applied projects.

In the same context, Dr. Alaa Mohamed El Batsh, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at the Egyptian Russian University, explained that the winning project was one of the graduation projects for students of the “Mechatronics and Robotics Engineering Program” under the title: “Design and implementation of the third level of smart self-driving for an electric car.” His Excellency the Minister of Defense and Military Production visited and inspected the projects presented in the competition with a large number of military and educational leaders, and with great participation from universities and research centers.

The Dean of the Faculty of Engineering pointed out that the university pays great attention to student projects that include creative ideas that promise cadres capable of shouldering responsibility, and that the Egyptian-Russian University’s sponsorship of this student project comes within the framework of implementing the Egyptian-Russian University’s strategy to localize smart electric car technology as one of the directions of the Egyptian state’s strategic plan “STI-2030”; to build a knowledge economy, encourage innovation and localize technology.. wishing more progress and success for the college students and continued excellence and appearance on the podiums, whether local or international, in various competitions.

For his part, Dr. Abdullah Muhammad Al-Ramsisi, a doctor in the Department of Mechatronics and Robotics Engineering Program at the Faculty of Engineering at the Egyptian-Russian University and supervisor of the project, stated that the students’ project achieves the third level of the process of self-driving and autonomous driving of the car. The car can move autonomously from a specific point to a target location by choosing the most appropriate route through the integration of location data from the IMU, and location data received from the global navigation system GPS, with detailed maps of the movement area…. The car can avoid obstacles that appear in its path, whether fixed or moving, using a variety of sensors.

Dr. Abdullah Muhammad Al-Ramsisi, the project supervisor, revealed that during the implementation of the project, an integrated set of modern technologies was used, including: “Artificial Intelligence Technology, Computer Vision CV, Neural Networks CNN, Deep Learning Algorithms, Embedded Systems Technology, and Robot Operating Systems ROS Technology”, and the navigation systems were integrated with the guidance and control systems of the car and its movement on the specified route and updating the data to ensure that it does not deviate from the route.

The project supervisor also noted that the team of undergraduate students who won sixth place at the university colleges level in the International Competition for Scientific and Engineering Innovations at the Egyptian Military Academy are: “Abdelrahman Abdel Fattah Al-Rashidi, Ibrahim Al-Sayed Al-Sayed, Mohsen Mohamed, Rawda Abdel Khaleq, Dina Mohamed Fouad, Hossam Hassan, Mahmoud Zalat, Shorouk Wael, Aya Abdullah, Nesma Ramadan, and Mariam Abdelrahman.”
