Inclusion of the Egyptian Russian University in the Times World Ranking of Arab Universities
Dr. Sherif Fakhry, President of the Egyptian Russian University, announced that the result of the ranking of Arab universities issued by the “Times Higher Education Ranking” for the year 2023 has been announced, and that the “Egyptian Russian University” was included for the first time in the classification with a rank of (36) at the level of Egyptian universities and in the rank “+161” at the level of the 207 Arab universities ranked.
The President of the Egyptian Russian University praised the distinguished efforts made by the university’s faculty members to achieve the plan of the “Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research” emanating from the State Plan for Sustainable Development 2030, which led to the university being included in this valuable classification, with the full support of Dr. Mohamed Kamal Mustafa, Chairman of the University’s Board of Trustees, wishing more success to raise the university’s ranking in the future in that classification and among other international classifications.
In the same context, Dr. Essam Khamis, Advisor to the President of the Egyptian Russian University for Academic Development, confirmed that the third edition of the ranking included new updates in line with the changes made to the methodology of THE global ranking, which aims to continue the classification in showing the diverse outputs of universities with intensive researches. He explained that the ranking was based on 6 main performance indicators and 20 sub-performance standards, including teaching (learning environment) with a relative weight of 31%, educational reputation with a relative weight of 18%, the percentage of doctorates awarded to faculty members with a relative weight of 5%, and the percentage of faculty members who teach to the number of students which has a relative weight of 4%, the percentage of doctorates awarded to bachelor’s degrees has a relative weight of 2.5%, and the institutional income for each faculty member has a relative weight of 1.5%.
The advisor to the President of the Egyptian Russian University for Academic Development added that the “THE” website stated that a survey of the Arab reputation that supports this indicator was conducted in the months of May and June 2023 and resulted in more than 35,000 votes, as academics in the Arab region who were cited were invited to participate in expressing their opinion in published research, which reflected the position of institutions in teaching and scientific research, indicating that the teaching reputation measure was based on the number of teaching votes obtained from the Arab World Reputation Surveys for the years (2022 and 2023).
It is worth noting that the “Times Ranking of Arab Universities”, for the year 2023, is based on the methodology of the Times World University Classification Framework, with some amendments made and the inclusion of some new standards to reflect the features, tasks and characteristics of universities in the “Middle East and North Africa”, and thus the universities were judged in all their basic tasks such as: “teaching, scientific research, community service, and international position.”
