The Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine at the Egyptian Russian University presents the causes of jaw joint pain, its treatment, and important tips that must be followed for many patients who often suffer from headache with pain on both sides of the face and in the area around the ear. This pain increases with chewing or sometimes accompanied by sounds of crackling. This step comes under the enlightening role of the university’s faculties in disseminating scientific academic information of practical interest in society, under the auspices of Dr. Sherif Fakhry Mohamed Abdel Nabi, President of the University.

 

Dr. Khaled Tawfik, Dean of the Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine at the Egyptian Russian University in Badr City, explained that the journey of a “jaw joint pain” patient in the search for a treatment begins with consulting many specialists: “otolaryngologist, neurologist, ophthalmologist and gastroenterologist.” , While the optimal treatment is with the dentist, especially a specialist in “oral and maxillofacial surgery”. He mentioned that “grinding” the teeth is among the famous reasons which is often due to tension, or lack of occlusion of teeth over each other or extracting a lot of teeth, especially the posterior ones.

 

The Dean of the Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine at the Egyptian Russian University added that one of the most famous reasons is the existence of wrong eating habits that should be minimized and avoided as much as possible, such as: “Eating toasters and crackers, chewing gum for long periods, eating ready-made meals that require opening the mouth more than natural.” He Revealed that the treatment begins with accurate diagnosis to determine the origin of the problem that can be done by taking the patient’s history and conducting a thorough examination of the maxillofacial muscles with an examination of the jaw joint, then making the required x-rays.

 

 In the same context, Dr. Hisham El-Hawary, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine at the Egyptian Russian University, and a professor of oral and maxillofacial surgery, noted that the treatment of jaw pain has multiple methods, namely: “pharmacological treatments, such as muscle relaxants, pain relievers, and anti-inflammatories in addition to injections, therapeutic splints and physical therapy.” Noting that some cases require surgical intervention in some cases. Moreover, laser treatment is one of the latest methods of treating jaw joint pain.

 

On the other hand, the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine at the Egyptian Russian University indicated that there is a department of “Oral, Maxillofacial and Oral Surgery” on the campus, which has the latest medical devices and equipment. The department is under the supervision of a group of professors and faculty members at the highest level of professionalism and efficiency at the medical and educational levels. He referred that the college administration welcomes patients in the comprehensive clinics for Oral and Dental Surgery at the university from “Sunday to Thursday” weekly from nine in the morning till three in the afternoon; to provide a free, integrated, high-level medical service for frequent patients.
