part of the strong educational and cultural relations between Egypt and the United States of America, the Egyptian Russian University organized a virtual seminar entitled:
“Applying for Fulbright Grants and Programs for Research and Study in the United States of America”
The event was held at the invitation of Prof. Dr. Sherif Fakhry, President of the University, in collaboration with the U.S. Fulbright Commission. The seminar was delivered by Ms. Noha Salah, Senior Program Officer at Fulbright, and attended by Dr. Essam Khalees, Advisor to the University President for Academic Development and former Chairman of the Fulbright Commission in Egypt, along with a number of faculty members and undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Prof. Dr. Sherif Fakhry moderated the seminar, praising the importance of international academic cooperation and emphasizing that the Egyptian Russian University is open to partnerships with global educational and research institutions. He welcomed academic and cultural cooperation and exchange with American universities, which contributes to enhancing the quality of education and research.
He also pointed out that the seminar was held under the patronage of Dr. Mohamed Kamal El-Sayed Mostafa, Chairman of the University’s Board of Trustees, as part of the university’s continuous support for academic activities and international cooperation.
Dr. Essam Khalees explained that the Fulbright Commission is one of the most prominent forms of cooperation between Egypt and the United States. It was established under an international protocol signed on November 3, 1949—76 years ago—making it one of the oldest educational and cultural exchange bodies in the world. He added that the Commission manages exchange programs between the two countries and is funded by the U.S. Department of State.
During the seminar, Ms. Noha Salah gave a comprehensive presentation about the programs offered by the Commission, which target graduates, researchers, and professionals in various fields, with a focus on scientific priority areas. She also reviewed aspects of cooperation between Egyptian and American universities through scholarships for master’s and doctoral students, research grants, Islamic studies and arts fellowships, faculty and student exchange programs, distance learning, English language teaching, vocational training, as well as joint research and cultural projects aligned with Egypt’s Vision 2030 for sustainable development.
The seminar witnessed significant engagement from attendees both in the university’s council hall and those attending virtually. Many questions and inquiries were raised, including the mechanisms and criteria for reviewing submitted proposals and the different stages of the evaluation process. Ms. Noha Salah answered all questions with clarity and transparency, explaining the procedures in detail.
The event proved to be fruitful and rich with valuable information about Fulbright’s academic support programs and avenues for international cooperation, affirming its vital role in promoting academic and research excellence in Egypt.
The seminar concluded with widespread praise from the attendees for the insightful presentation and valuable content, and for the pivotal role the Fulbright Commission plays in supporting the Egyptian academic community and strengthening educational and cultural ties between Egypt and the United States of America.
