The Egyptian Russian University concluded the activities of the “Awareness Youth Campaign” for the fourth year in a row during the cultural season inside the university campus, in the presence of a group of public figures, faculty members, a large number of students from various university faculties and actors who worked in “Except Me” series, inspired by real stories that discuss interesting issues to society in general, including the issue of drug addiction, through real events.
Prof. Dr. Sherif Fakhry, President of the Egyptian Russian University in Cairo in Badr City, announced that the university organized the “Awareness Youth Campaign” in cooperation with the “Fund for Drug Control and the Treatment of Addiction” with the aim eliminating the phenomenon of addiction, and educating young people and families in Badr City about the harms of drug use, as well as educating school children and students about the negative effects of smoking. The campaign activities included awareness visits to many factories in the industrial area of Badr City, as well as many schools in Badr and Al Shorouk cities, in addition to raising awareness within University colleges.
During his speech, the President of the Egyptian Russian University in Cairo expressed his happiness with the return of student activities at full capacity, while sticking to the precautionary measures. He added that the campaign activities came up with the following recommendations:
1- Ensuring that the campaign continues annually due to its success and positive impact on university students and the community surrounding the university, and instilling a sense of social responsibility and love of community service in university students.
2- Launching a web page in the name of the campaign.
3- Developing future plans to increase the societal parties participating in the campaign to unify efforts and visions in confronting the problem of drug abuse and addiction and to reach a larger number of targets.
4- Investing the students’ interaction with the campaign to conduct more awareness campaigns that address aspects of interest to young people.
For her part, Prof. Hana Abdel Rahman, the pioneer of student activities at the Egyptian Russian University and the supervisor of the campaign’s organization, explained that the conclusion of the activities of the “Awareness Youth Campaign” witnessed an open panel discussion full of questions and interaction between students from various faculties at the university and public figures and artists from the guests. “.
The pioneer of student activities at the Egyptian Russian University stated that the campaign aimed to build the capacity of student volunteers in raising awareness and community education, preparing effective youth cadres and providing them with the necessary skills. The campaign played a major role in correcting many misconceptions about drug abuse, addiction and the harms of smoking, from being a way that helps in focusing, activating memory, increasing physical ability and other misconceptions and beliefs. She pointed out that a number of visits were organized to the industrial area in Badr City in cooperation with “Badr Businessmen and Investors Association”, and other visits to schools were carried out in cooperation with the “Board of Trustees for Parents and Teachers of Al-Shorouk and Badr Educational Administration”; to give lectures about the dangers of smoking and drug addiction. An open discussion with factory workers and school students was carried out and a sports day was organized at the university for the same purpose.
At the end of the closing ceremony of the activities of the “Awareness Youth Campaign” in the conference hall in the university campus, Prof. Dr. Sherif Fakhry, the president of the university, honored: “Dr. Amr Othman, Assistant Minister of Solidarity and Director of the “Fund for Drug Control and the Treatment of Addiction”, on whose behalf, Prof. Amira Ragab, Assistant Supervisor of The Department of Preventive Programs in the Fund for Drug Control and the Treatment of Addiction”, Mr. Tariq Bilal, Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Parents of the Educational Administration (Al-Shorouk City and Badr City), the actress Hanadi Muhanna, the actress Dina Sami, the actress Kira Al-Sabah, and the actor Ahmed Kishk, and a large number of participants in the campaign and outstanding students were honored.
