Dr. Sherif Fakhry Mohamed Abd-el-Naby, President of the Egyptian Russian University (ERU), announced that an exhibition has been inaugurated for works produced by students of the Faculty of Applied Arts for the academic year (2023-2024) for courses of the first level (the preparatory year) and the second level (the first year), for the four departments: Glass Department, Interior Design & Furniture Department, Printing & Packaging Department, and Fashion & Clothing Department. Dr. Sherif pointed out that the exhibition was held with the support of Dr. Mohamed Kamal Al-Sayed Mustafa, the Chairman of the University’s Board of Trustees.

The ERU President added that the exhibition comes out of the university’s keenness to motivate talented students, urge them to be creative and to produce distinguished artistic works, demonstrate their artistic creativity, and exchange knowledge and experiences with each other. The exhibition also aims at giving the students the opportunity to present their works before specialists and industrialists, informing the community about their scientific and practical capacities, and that they are capable and deserving the opportunity to participate in economic development in the Egyptian society.

Dr. Sherif also stated that the participating students presented many distinguished applied art works in the various specializations at the faculty, and each student excelled in the work he carried out, which was distinguished by his own touch. The exhibits were admired by all attendees: academics, businessmen, professors of the Faculty of Applied Arts, experts from the Central Metallurgical Research & Development Institute – CMRDI. They demonstrated the students’ distinctive artistic talents through their innovative ideas which open up new horizons and announce the birth of a new generation of designers who will occupy a distinguished position in the path of comprehensive development which the state seeks.

In the same context, Dean of the Faculty of Applied Arts at the ERU, Dr. Ezz-el-Deen Abd-el-Aziz Hassan, asserted that the outcomes of the scientific and artistic educational process in the courses of the four specializations clearly demonstrate the continued development and building of the students’ creative and innovative capacities. He added that the faculty seeks to achieve the university’s strategy in linking the students to the labor market while studying, and that there is an ongoing follow-up of the students’ performance and an increasing keenness to develop their innovative capabilities and to expand their theoretical knowledge and practical skills.

The Dean of the Faculty of Applied Arts at the ERU added that, in the framework of the faculty’s projects to serve the community and to develop the environment aesthetically and functionally within the campus buildings, the faculty designed and executed the installation of art works, for ceiling covers that are made of colored glass and other materials in the university’s mosque building: at both prayer places for men and women. In addition, mosaic glass murals, with verses of the Holy Qur’an and the Fairest Names of God, were designed, executed and installed in the interior walls of the mosque.

For his part, the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Applied Arts at the ERU, Dr. Hossam Nazmy, said that the exhibition was well received by the attendees and he encouraged the students to go on progressing and moving forward in continuing their academic career. This is in order to keep pace with the progress in their fields of study, to contribute to solving the society’s problems and to help in developing the national economy. He pointed out that the exhibition was distinguished by the diversity of students’ innovations from all the faculty departments, and that the students made a great effort in the practical courses and brought out their creative energies in a distinguished manner, using various materials.

The exhibition was attended by: Dr. Ibrahim Ghayyad, Head of the Central Metallurgical Research & Development Institute – CMRDI, Dr. Essam Khamis, Advisor to the ERU President for Academic Development, Dr. Shehata Gharib, Advisor to the ERU President for Institutional Development, and Dr. Alaa Mohamed Al-Batsh, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, and the Accountant / Mr. Mustafa Hussein Abd-el-Khaleq, Former Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Leather City in Rubeky, Dr. Iman El-Mahallawy, Professor of Metallurgical Engineering at Cairo University and Head of the Metallurgical Engineering Department at the British University, Dr. Doaa Hamed, Professor of Glass Design at the Faculty of Applied Arts at Helwan University, Dr. Wajih Khedr, Secretary General of the Syndicate of Applied Arts Designers, Dr. Esmat Mahmoud Aly Hamzawy, Professor of Glass at the National Research Center, Dr. Mo’ness Azzouz, Professor of Glass Chemistry at the National Research Center, and Dr. Mohamed Lotfy, Professor of Organic Chemistry at the National Research Center.
