The Egyptian Russian University reveals the names of the winners of the largest Robot Sumo competition.
Dr. Sherif Fahkry Mohamed Abdel Nabi, President of the Egyptian Russian University, announced that within the framework of the great interest that the university pays to building up the character of youth, and supporting scientific, recreational, and competitive group competitions, the Faculty of Engineering organized a competition in which (9) Egyptian universities and institutes participated under the title of Robot Sumo wrestling, in its third edition; and included more than (9) academic institutions, whether: “governmental, private, or civil”.. Noting that the competition was supported by Dr. Mohamed Kamal El-Sayed Mustafa, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the University, and the competition is about presenting models of robots that are controlled remotely, designed and implemented by students, and competing between them by wrestling those models to choose the model that can get the other out of the wrestling ring.
On the same topic, Dr. Alaa Mohamed El Batsh, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at the Egyptian Russian University, explained that the Robot Sumo wrestling competition was participated in by:
– “Egyptian Russian University”, with (10) teams from the Faculties of Artificial Intelligence and Engineering.
– “Cairo University”, with (3) teams.
– “Mansoura University”, with two teams.
– “Suez Canal University”, the Egyptian Chinese College of Applied Technology with (22) teams.
– “Port Said University”, Faculty of Engineering with one team.
– “Zagazig Private University”, with (3) teams.
– “El Alamein University”, one team.
– “New Cairo Technological University”, one team.
– “10th of Ramadan Institute”, with 11 teams.
The Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at the Egyptian Russian University stated that the goal of organizing the Robot Sumo competition is to encourage students to “research and innovate”, link theoretical studies with the practical side, motivate students to work within a team spirit, and create a competitive environment among them; to find innovative solutions to the challenges that definitely exist and contribute to the sustainable development of society. He pointed out that more than (250) male and female students participated in (54) teams, making the competition one of the largest competitions in academic institutions in the robotics industry by students.
For his part, Dr. Hesham Fathy, Dean of the Faculty of Artificial Intelligence at the Egyptian Russian University, indicated that the competition was organized and prepared by the “Huawei Academy” team inside the university campus; which added more enthusiasm and serious competition between the competing teams. He explained that the jury in the competition consisted of: “Dr. Mohamed Maher, and Dr. Ahmed Hamdy, doctors from the Department of Communication Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering.”
In the same context, Dr. Tamer Saleh, Executive Director of Huawei Academy at the Egyptian Russian University and lecturer at the Faculty of Engineering, Department of Communication Engineering, and the person responsible for organizing the competition, confirmed that the competition rounds ended with the promotion of the first three teams, and awards were distributed to the winning teams and certificates of appreciation were handed over to all participating students in the competition; in appreciation of their diligence, ability to innovate, effective participation and fair competition. He added that the attendees from industrialists and academics praised the level of the students and their efficiency in manufacturing the competing robots and their ability to control them remotely.
The Executive Director of Huawei Academy at the Egyptian Russian University pointed out that the competition was held under the sponsorship of several companies, most notably: “Free Electronics Company, represented by Engineer Ahmed Sobhi, and Nerotech Company for Training and Software Solutions, represented by Engineer Mahmoud Said, and Engineer Rowan El-Tayeb.”
It is worth noting that the teams which won the first places were as follows:
– First place: “Barracuda” team, from the Tenth of Ramadan Institute, and the names of the students participating in the winning team are: “Ibrahim Ramadan, Mohamed Mahmoud, and Ismail Mahmoud”.
– Second place: “Antar” team, from Port Said University Engineering, and the names of the students participating in the winning team are: “Ali Mahmoud, Mohamed Shehata, Mohamed Taha, and Ayman Masoud”.
– Third place: “Ninja Trix” team, from the Faculty of Engineering at the Egyptian Russian University, and the names of the students participating in the winning team are: “Fatima Khaled, Habeeba Ayman, Abdel Rahman Gamal, Mohamed Saad, and Moataz Ahmed”.
It is worth noting that the events included honoring a number of holders of international certificates from Huawei and students at the Huawei Academy at the Egyptian Russian University, namely:
– “Engineer Mohamed El-Gizawy”, in the field of “Cloud and Artificial Intelligence”.
– “George Youssef”, in the field of “Artificial Intelligence”.
– “John Armia”, in the field of “Cyber Security”.
It is worth noting that the events were admired by visitors, attendees and contestants, and souvenirs and certificates of appreciation were distributed to all participating teams in their names, and we are waiting for more teams from all over the Republic in “Robot Sumo”, in the fourth edition.
