Dr. Sherif Fakhry Mohamed Abd-el-Naby, President of Egyptian Russian University (ERU), announced that the Faculty of Al-Alsun (Faculty of Languages) at the university organized a seminar to honor the writer and novelist Salwa Bakr in celebration of her historic achievement as the first female writer in the world to win the BRICS Literature Award in its first session (2025/2026). He pointed out that the honoring celebration came with the support of Dr. Mohamed Kamal Mustafa, Chairman of the University’s Board of Trustees, and in line with the University’s strategy, which aims at hosting senior scientists, academics, and prominent figures in various fields, in order to give students the opportunity to communicate with them closely and be guided by their inspiring journey.
In the same context, Dr. Makarem Al-Ghamry, Dean of the Faculty of Al-Alsun at the ERU, explained that the aim of organizing this literary celebration to honor the writer and novelist Salwa Bakr comes within the framework of the faculty’s endeavor to provide a comprehensive educational system that goes beyond traditional curricula, in a way that contributes to developing creative and critical skills among students. She pinpointed that the event witnessed a prominent presence of Novelist and Critic/ Hala Al-Badry, and Novelist and Member of Parliament/ Doha Aassy.
The Dean of the Faculty of Al-Alsun at the ERU stated that the speakers reviewed during the seminar the cultural importance of the award and its pivotal role in promoting cultural convergence among the BRICS countries. They also highlighted the reasons that qualified the great novelist Salwa Bakr to obtain this international recognition. She emphasized that the Faculty’s administration is constantly keen on motivating students to participate in sessions, workshops, and seminars in order to stimulate their interactive thinking, acquire confidence in speaking in front of specialists, and bridge the gap between the academic and applied aspects of learning to support their future career.
Dr. Makarem Al-Ghamry added that the seminar included a review of the three writers’ creative journeys, offered essential advice to students for developing their literary talents, and concluded with an open discussion and a rich exchange of ideas between the students and the distinguished guests, which contributed to transferring expertise to the faculty students. The seminar concluded with thanking the guests and presenting to them the University’s shield.
