Prof. Dr. Sherif Fakhry Mohamed Abdelnaby, President of the Egyptian Russian University (ERU), announced that, as part of the University’s active role in developing students’ life and physical skills and enabling them to strike a balance between academic study and sports—thereby promoting the concept of holistic education and personal development—the University is keen to participate in various sporting competitions.
He added that the University made a remarkable and distinguished showing during its participation in the 12th African University Games “Cairo 2026,” held under the auspices of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, in cooperation with the Federation of African University Sports and the Egyptian Universities Sports Federation, from September 8 to 16, 2026. Approximately 81 universities from 17 African countries competed in the event.
The University delegation participated with the support of Prof. Dr. Mohamed Kamal Mostafa, Chairman of the University’s Board of Trustees, reflecting his commitment to supporting all forms of student activities both on and off campus.
The President of the Egyptian Russian University noted that the students’ strong participation resulted in winning four continental medals—one gold and three silver—an achievement that reflects the significant support and attention the University gives to sporting talent. Ibrahim Ayad Ibrahim, a student at the Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine, won first place and a gold medal in the Rapid Chess competition. Ahmed Mohamed Aboul Magd, a student at the Faculty of Engineering, won two silver medals in the Decathlon and Javelin Throw events in athletics. Menna Mohamed Abdallah, also from the Faculty of Engineering, secured second place and a silver medal in Taekwondo (Poomsae).
He expressed the University administration’s profound pride in the achievements of its champions at this major continental event, noting that their success reflects the excellence of ERU students and their ability to achieve outstanding results across various fields alongside their academic accomplishments.
For her part, Dr. Hanaa Abdelrahman, Advisor to the President of the Egyptian Russian University for Student Activities, praised the honorable representation, distinguished performance, and exemplary conduct demonstrated by the University students who participated in the competitions, as well as their commitment to representing the University in the best possible manner.
She also commended the efforts of the University’s Youth Welfare Department and its role in identifying and nurturing talented and outstanding students across all individual and team sports and supporting them in achieving championship success under the supervision of a distinguished group of sports supervisors and coaches from within the University.
The Advisor to the University President for Student Activities stated that the championship witnessed the commendable participation of a distinguished group of ERU students in various sports, including:

Ahmed Mohamed Ahmed – Faculty of Engineering – Athletics (Individual) – Second Place and Two Silver Medals.
Jomana Haitham Mohamed – Faculty of Al-Alsun – Karate (Individual).
Zahwa Mohamed Abdel Fattah – Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine – Athletics (Individual).
Mariam Ahmed Abou Ouf – Faculty of Fine Arts – Karate (Individual).
Menna Mohamed Abdallah – Faculty of Engineering – Taekwondo (Individual) – Second Place and Silver Medal.
She expressed her deep appreciation and pride in the students for their outstanding and exemplary performance throughout the competitions, emphasizing that the University takes great pride in their sportsmanship and highly competitive spirit. She wished all ERU students continued success and further podium finishes at local and international events.
On the same occasion, Captain Mohamed Abdallah Mostafa, Director of the Youth Welfare Department at the Egyptian Russian University, expressed his delight at this sporting achievement in one of the most significant university sporting championships on the African continent. The event, hosted by the Arab Republic of Egypt for the first time in its history under the slogan “One Flame… One Continent,” brought together more than 2,000 participants from across Africa. ERU students successfully raised the Egyptian Russian University flag on the winners’ podium, securing a total of four medals.
The Director of the Youth Welfare Department added that the Department extends its congratulations to the entire University community in general and to the student champions in particular on this significant achievement.
