Completion of the Medical Screening for Protecting staff of Dental Clinics at the Egyptian Russian University

As is customary each year, with support from Prof. Dr. Sherif Fakhry, President of the University, and Mrs. Ikram Abdel Hamid, the University Secretary-General, in facilitating all procedures, and under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Khaled Tawfik, Dean of the Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine at the university, and Prof. Dr. Nourhan El-Deqqi, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, a medical screening for hepatitis viruses “B” and “C” was conducted. This screening was performed for fourth-year students before beginning their clinic training, as well as for new nursing staff members and workers.

This initiative stems from the college administration’s commitment to raising health awareness among medical field workers about the significant risks associated with viral hepatitis, transmission methods, preventive measures, and the importance of receiving recommended vaccinations.

Dr. Amani Amer, the college’s infection control officer and campaign supervisor, mentioned that dentistry is a profession that inherently involves direct contact with tissues and oral fluids, including blood and saliva, by members of the medical team. These tissues and fluids may carry various pathogens, such as hepatitis B and C viruses. This examination is conducted to detect any hepatitis infections.

This screening is provided annually, free of charge, and is mandatory for all students before interacting with patients within the clinics. The college adopts an ambitious program aligned with the university’s mission of serving the community, preventing infection spread, and ensuring safe healthcare delivery for both patients and the medical team.

Special thanks to the team at the Arab International Laboratories, led by Prof. Dr. Mahmoud Al-Ansari, for their fruitful cooperation with the college administration.
