Dr. Sherif Fakhry Mohamed Abd-el-Naby, President of the Egyptian Russian University (ERU), announced that the Student Activities Department, in cooperation with the Faculty of Al-Alsun (Facullty of Languages), organized a historical seminar on the genius of Egyptian civilization entitled: “The Origin and Development of Ancient Egyptian Civilization.” The seminar was held in a cultural celebration that blended the richness of history with the ambition of youth. Dr. Sherif pointed out that the seminar was held with the support of Dr. Mohamed Kamal Mustafa, Chairman of the University’s Board of Trustees, as part of the university’s strategy to raise historical awareness and build a student community that enjoys historical culture, appreciates the value of preserving heritage and national treasures, and feels responsible for protecting antiquities and archaeological sites, ensuring their sustainability for future generations.
On the same topic, Dr. Makarem Al-Ghamry, Dean of the Faculty of Al-Alsun at the Egyptian Russian University, said that Dr. Nasser Mekkawy, Professor at the Faculty of Archaeology at Cairo University, was present at the seminar, which was a special celebration that combined pride in ancient Egyptian civilization with awareness of the future. She pinpointed that the event aimed at encouraging students to learn, research and study in the areas of history and antiquities, and to promote national identity and instill values of belonging and pride, as sustainable technological or economic progress cannot be accomplished without a well-established cultural and national identity foundation.
On her part, Dr. Hanaa Abd-el-Rahman, Advisor to the ERU President for Student Activities, stated that the seminar addressed: the journey of the development of the ancient Egyptian state, the miraculous cognition and the superiority of the Egyptians in “sciences, arts, and architecture”, the miracle of the steadfastness of this civilization over thousands of years as a living witness to the greatness and diligence of the ancient Egyptians, the importance of preserving heritage, and the role of youth in protecting antiquities and spreading cultural awareness. She added that the student Menna Al-Hadeedy from the Faculty of Engineering managed the event with confidence and competence. Dr. Hanaa also highlighted that the seminar was attended by a large number of students from diverse disciplines, and that the students showed great interest and noticeable interaction with the presented content, and posed many questions that reflected their awareness and keenness to understand their ancient history, in confirmation of the role of the new generations in preserving the heritage of the ancestors, maintaining the Egyptian identity, and building the future.
The seminar drew lessons from a civilization that transcended its time, whose sciences remained alive, whose capacities spoke volumes, and whose monuments testified to the greatness of the ancient Egyptians. The seminar is considered an invitation to have history read with a new lens of awareness, to understand oneself, to strengthen the sense of belonging, to reinforce the sense of pride in the ancient Egyptian civilization, which is an example of what the beloved homeland can accomplish through the diligent work of its sons and daughters.
At the end of the event, Dr. Nasser Mekkawy was honored. He expressed his pride in the university students who proved that love for one’s country starts with knowing its history. He also expressed his admiration for their questions, which reflected a high level of culture and a passion for learning about all aspects of ancient Egyptian civilization. He extended his thanks to everyone who contributed to the success of this special cultural day.
It is worth mentioning that the seminar was attended by: Dr. Mohamed Oraby, Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts, Dr. Makarem Al-Ghamry, Dean of the Faculty of Al-Alsun and Technical Languages, Dr. Faten Labib, Head of the Department of Architectural Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Hanaa Abd-el- Rahman, Advisor to ERU President for Student Activities, Dr. Mohamed Badary, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts for Education and Student Affairs, in addition to a number of faculty members and students from various faculties of the university.
