"Sustainability Day" Symposium at the Egyptian Russian University
As a part of the Egyptian Russian University’s commitment to spreading awareness about the importance of sustainability and sustainable development, and under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Sherif Fakhry, President of the University, Prof. Dr. Tahera Hamieh, Dean of the Faculty of Management, Economics and Business Technology, the college organized an event entitled “Sustainability Day” In the presence of a number of professors, experts and students interested in the field of sustainability and sustainable development.
The event began with a speech by Prof. Dr. Sherif Fakhry, President of the University, in which he stressed the importance of sustainability in developing societies and achieving national goals. Prof. Dr. Engy Raouf, Vice Dean of the College for Education and Student Affairs, also gave her speech, stressing the role of colleges and universities in spreading the culture of sustainability among students.
The event was also attended by Dr. Ahmed Shaaban, Founder of the Sustainable Youth Entity, who provided an overview of the entity and its role in promoting the culture of sustainability among youth. In addition, Dr. Manar Mounir, Vice President of the Innovation and Sustainability Club, spoke about the definition of sustainability, its importance, applications and the role of individuals towards sustainability practices in practical life.
Dr. Ahmed Saeed, Director of the Science, Technology and Innovation Excellence Unit, discussed the experiences of the Egyptian Russian University towards sustainability and gave a detailed presentation on the sustainability practices at the Egyptian Russian University and the adoption of sustainability themes to be applied at the university.
During the day, Mr. Mahmoud Sherif, Executive Director of the Sustainable Youth Entity, gave a presentation on Egypt’s 2030 Plan for Sustainable Development and its most important goals, and some ideas for sustainability practices that the entity’s members participated in and were actually implemented.
The event concluded with an open discussion session on sustainability, where ideas and visions were exchanged between the attending students and faculty members.
It is worth noting that this day comes within a series of events that the university organizes to raise students’ awareness of sustainable development issues and their pivotal role in achieving Egypt’s sustainable vision.
