Dr. Sherif Fakhry Mohamed Abdel Nabi, President of the Egyptian Russian University (ERU), announced the conclusion of the fourth season of the Best Bridge Model (BBM) competition, held as part of the university’s commitment to supporting student activities that promote innovation and teamwork among engineering students.
The competition was organized in cooperation with the Egyptian Countryside Development Company, initiated and coordinated by the New Vision Student Activity Club at ERU, in collaboration with the Construction Engineering Department at the Faculty of Engineering, and supported by Dr. Mohamed Kamal Mostafa, Chairman of the Board of Trustees.
The President of the University stated that the competition is considered one of the pioneering student initiatives launched by the New Vision team. It aims to provide an applied platform for engineering students to develop their skills in structural design and execution, simulate real-life practical challenges, and design and build bridge models subjected to load testing and structural efficiency evaluation—thus enhancing students’ structural engineering skills and fostering a spirit of positive competition.
In the same context, Dr. Alaa Mohamed El-Battash, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at the Egyptian Russian University, explained that this year’s competition achieved remarkable success, attracting 66 engineering teams representing 11 universities and higher institutes, with a total of 330 students.
The participating institutions included:
Egyptian Russian University (ERU), Helwan University, Al-Azhar University, Zagazig University, Badr University in Cairo (BUC), Sinai University, Sphinx University, El-Shorouk Academy, the Higher Technological Institute in 10th of Ramadan City (HTI), the Higher Institute of Engineering in Obour City, and the Higher Institute of Engineering in the Fifth Settlement (ET5).
The Dean of the Faculty of Engineering confirmed that the organizing committee evaluated the projects according to precise criteria to ensure equal opportunities for all participating teams, focusing on: originality and quality of the idea, accuracy of engineering execution, model efficiency in bearing loads, teamwork skills, and adherence to the timeline. He noted that the competition resulted in outstanding student models demonstrating high competence in dealing with engineering challenges and problems.
