Dr. Sherif Fakhry Mohamed Abd-el-Naby, President of the Egyptian Russian University (ERU), announced that the “Huawei Academy” at the university organized the first edition of the “Sabeq wa Laheq” (“Ahead or Behind”) Robotic Car Racing Competition. Fifteen educational institutions from Egyptian universities and institutes, with more than (300) male and female students and organizers of the competition, participated in the event. Dr. Sherif pinpointed that the competition was organized with the support of Dr. Mohamed Kamal Al-Sayed Mostafa, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the University. He also highlighted that the event came within the university’s strategy of caring for student technological activities, and its ongoing keenness to provide an educational environment that stimulates creativity and innovation.
In the same context, Dr. Hesham Fathy, Dean of the Faculty of Artificial Intelligence at the ERU and Supervisor of Huawei Academy, asserted that the university administration’s continuous support has a major role in the success of the “Sabiq wa Laheq” Robot Car Racing Competition. This helps direct students’ energies towards technological sectors which add high value to the modern digital economy, enabling them to engage in real competitive experiences that enhance their readiness for the labor market. He pointed out that the administration of Huawei Academy at the university always emphasizes the importance of investing in young minds and supporting initiatives that develop students’ practical and technical skills, and reinforce its position as a distinguished center for engineering and technological activities.
The Dean of the Faculty of Artificial Intelligence at the ERU and Supervisor of Huawei Academy indicated that this competition provided an opportunity for male and female students to apply what they study practically in a real competitive environment which simulates the labor market. He stated that organizing the event reflects the interest of Huawei Academy at the ERU in qualifying students technically and skillfully, and developing their capabilities in the fields of robotics, intelligent systems and teamwork.
On his part, Dr. Tamer Saleh, Executive Director of Huawei Academy at the Egyptian-Russian University and a Lecturer in the Department of Communications Engineering, explained that Huawei Academy at the university played a vital role in organizing and preparing the competition, in terms of: “technical supervision, monitoring the preparation of the teams, and organizing the judging mechanism and competitions.” He added that the evaluation criteria for the teams were precisely set, the competition arena was prepared at the highest level, the teams were monitored during the preparation period, and preparatory meetings were held with the organizing team and the judges to ensure the clarity of the judging mechanism and to achieve the highest levels of fairness and transparency.
The Executive Director of Huawei Academy at the ERU said that the goal of the “Sabiq wa Laheq” Robotic Car Racing Competition is to motivate students to innovate and continuously develop, and to emphasize the importance of systematic engineering thinking, organized teamwork, and linking academic study with practical application, which contributes to preparing a generation capable of creativity and competition in advanced technological areas at both the local and international levels.
Dr. Tamer Saleh stated that Dr. Ahmed Hamdy, Lecturer in the Department of Communications Engineering, participated in judging the robotic car racing competition “Sabiq wa Laheq,” where he followed the technical supervision of the competition rounds, and evaluated the speed of the cars according to the standards of accuracy, efficiency of mechanical design, speed of response, and abidance by the rules of the competition. He also verified the application of the rules with complete impartiality to ensure equal opportunities for all the participating teams.
The Executive Director of Huawei Academy at the ERU added that the competition was launched amidst an enthusiastic competitive atmosphere and great interaction from the attendees, where teams competed using robots designed and programmed specifically to race within a designated track, in an experience that combined engineering creativity, programming precision, and speed of decision-making. He announced that the results of the competition were as follows:
– First Place: “Raiden” Team from Al-Madina University in Cairo. The participating students: Adam Emad, Nour Al-Ganzoury, Rawan Al-Husseiny, Omar Sayed, and Abdullah Al-Sayeh.
– Second Place: “Nexus” Team from Al-Madina University in Cairo. The participating students: Mahmoud Al-Sharshaby, Salem Al-Dosary, Yassin Safwat, Mohamed Said, and Mahmoud Al-Shahawy.
– Third Place: “ZNUS” Team from Zagazig University. The participating students: Amr Badr, Youssef Osama, Mahmoud Fathy, Khaled Deyab, and Mohamed Hosny.
It is worth mentioning that the organizing team and the students of Huawei Academy at the ERU performed a major role in the success of the competition, as they implemented the full coordination of the competition among the teams, organized the schedules, and followed up on the technical and logistical aspects. They are: Malak Ibrahim, Mohamed Yasser, Mazen Mahmoud, Saif Wael, Shaza Ahmed, Aya Reda, Menna Allah Ali, Ammar Aly, Mohamed Al-Qassas, Marwa Zahran, Youssef Obeid, Marly Magdy, Zeyad Al-Gizawy, Nabil Sultan, Nour-el-Huda Salah, Moataz Mahmoud, Abdullah Yasser, Saif Al-Islam Mahmoud, Shahd Khaled, Merna Matarawy, Zeyad Ashraf, Ahmed Mahmoud, Amira Gamal, Beshoy Karam, and Hanin Murad.
It is worth noting that, at the conclusion of the event activities, commemorative gifts and certificates of appreciation were handed to all participating teams, amidst widespread praise from the attendees for the organizational level and strong competition. The organizers of the competition emphasized that the next edition will witness greater participation and additional development in the competition mechanisms, which will enhance the status of the “Sabiq wa Laheq” Competition as one of the most important student technological events at the level of Egyptian universities.
Notably, on the sidelines of the competition’s award ceremony, students who completed Huawei Academy courses during the past period were honored.
