Egyptian-Russian University Students Develop "BioMotion" AI Project for Motor Rehabilitation

At the finals of the National Academy of Information Technology competitions for people with disabilities, a team of students from the Faculty of Artificial Intelligence at the Egyptian-Russian University (Mina Mamdouh, Mohamed Medhat, and Ahmed Reda) presented an applied project they named “BioMotion AI.”

The project utilizes computer vision and posture estimation technologies to track key body points (such as the knees and joints) during exercises. This transforms the traditional estimation by physicians into objective, quantitative, and precise measurements (such as joint angles and balance).

The system not only evaluates a single session but also builds a comprehensive timeline to monitor the patient’s movement progress since the start of the rehabilitation program. This also supports home rehabilitation monitoring as an aid for physicians and physical therapists.

This project combines artificial intelligence, programming, data analysis, web application development, product design, and entrepreneurship, equipping students with the skills to transform algorithms into a comprehensive product that meets real-world needs.

In its next phases, the project requires systematic testing and clinical validation to determine its accuracy and the impact of various factors (such as programming and imaging) to ensure its suitability for actual medical use.

The “Biomotion” project represents a distinguished model for employing artificial intelligence in community service and healthcare, moving students from the theoretical framework of algorithms to building technological solutions that address real human problems.

It is worth noting that the ERU student team presented their project in a way that garnered praise and admiration from the judges, amidst strong competition from teams from Cairo University, Benha National University, the Japanese University, and El Sewedy University.

Best wishes for continued excellence to the students of the Egyptian Russian University
