Good News from the Egyptian Russian University and Huawei for AI Enthusiasts

Dr. Sherif Fakhry Mohamed Abdelnaby, President of the Egyptian Russian University, announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the university and the global company Huawei. The signing took place during the events of the second Huawei Trainers’ Forum (2025). He pointed out that the memorandum aims to integrate artificial intelligence programs into academic curricula, expand digital education in Egypt, and enable thousands of students to acquire the digital technical skills needed in the labor market. This initiative aims to empower students to contribute to Egypt’s digital ambitions and societal development, with the support of Dr. Mohamed Kamal Mostafa, Chairman of the University’s Board of Trustees.

In this context, Dr. Hesham Fathy, Dean of the Faculty of Artificial Intelligence at the Egyptian Russian University and supervisor of the Huawei Academy, explained that under the new agreement, a free AI program will be launched for over 25,000 Egyptian students, including 10,000 students from the Egyptian Russian University. He added that the program is fully available online through the “Huawei Talent Platform” and is offered in both Arabic and English, allowing flexible and easy access to training content anytime and from anywhere.

Dr. Tamer Saleh, lecturer in the Communications Department at the Faculty of Engineering at the Egyptian Russian University and Executive Director of the Huawei Academy, confirmed that the new program consists of seven sessions designed in an interactive and simplified manner to explain the basic concepts of AI in clear and straightforward language. It requires no prior technical background and aims to provide high-quality AI education at all academic levels, enabling students to engage with the latest tools and applications in advanced technology.

The Executive Director of the Huawei Academy at the Egyptian Russian University pointed out that the new agreement represents a qualitative leap in supporting the educational environment in Egypt. It serves as a model of integration between the private sector and educational institutions, enhances Egypt’s position as a regional hub for technological education, and opens the door for broader digital transformation in education, making technology a tool for improving learning quality and fostering local innovation in AI and future technologies.

On a related note, Mr. Du Yong, Vice President of Huawei Egypt, stated that the company sees education as the foundation of a sustainable digital future. He affirmed Huawei’s commitment to linking academic knowledge with practical skills and empowering students to lead digital transformation. He added that initiatives like the Huawei ICT Academy contribute to building a new generation of technology leaders and innovators in Egypt.

In the same vein, Mr. Robert Barwa, Education Program Specialist at the UNESCO Regional Office in Cairo, praised this new partnership. He emphasized that digital transformation in education is not only about technology but primarily about people. He confirmed that the ongoing collaboration with Huawei reflects a shared vision of empowering educators and developing youth skills through flexible and inclusive learning environments.

The Education Program Specialist at UNESCO also expressed a desire to establish partnerships between the Egyptian Russian University and universities in China under UNESCO’s supervision in collaboration with Huawei.

Engineer Asmaa Serag El-Din, Executive Director of Huawei Academies in Egypt, affirmed that this step is a continuation of Huawei’s strategy to build digital capabilities across the republic. She praised the new program, which aims to expand future skills and support students in exploring the fields of AI through partnerships with universities and by providing impactful and accessible training content.

It is worth mentioning that Huawei invited Dr. Tamer Saleh, Executive Director of the Huawei Academy at the Egyptian Russian University, to present the same presentation he delivered in China during the MoU signing event. He was invited as the winner of the grand prize. Attendees praised the unique experience presented at the university for training children, which will be repeated this year to teach children programming, robotics, and AI according to the new agreement.

It is also noteworthy that the Egyptian Russian University is one of the first universities selected nationwide to implement this experience. This is due to its strong foundation, continuous support from the university’s administration, qualified faculty members, robust infrastructure, and readiness to open new educational horizons. Moreover, the university will be among the first to train non-technological faculties in these skills.
