ERU Faculty of Pharmacy Launches "Mind Under Infection" Campaign, Linking Health Awareness, Mental Health, and Sustainable Development Goals
In a step that reinforces the role of academic research in community service and achieving sustainable development goals, the Faculty of Pharmacy at the Egyptian Russian University organized an innovative and interactive awareness campaign titled “Mind Under Infection.”
The campaign aimed to shed light on the hidden impacts of certain viruses and parasites on mental and psychological health, translating complex scientific knowledge into simplified messages that serve the community.
The event was held under the generous patronage of Prof. Dr. Sherif Fakhry (President of the University) and Prof. Dr. Shehata Ghareeb (Advisor to the University President for Institutional Development and Head of the Psychological Support and Counseling Center). The campaign also received direct support from Prof. Dr. Mohamed Ehab Fetouh (Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy) and Prof. Dr. Gamil Abdullah (Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs), with active participation from the faculty’s Community Service and Environmental Development Committee.
Far from being a traditional student activity, the campaign’s objectives intersected directly with key UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It focused primarily on raising awareness about mental and psychological health—which is an integral part of overall health and well-being—as well as the transmission routes of viruses and parasites affecting the brain, their symptoms, and methods of prevention and treatment. Through this, students contributed to spreading a preventive culture that limits the spread of diseases and supports psychological well-being both inside and outside the university campus.
The campaign embodied the practical application of academic education. Under the supervision of their professors, students successfully transformed complex theoretical curricula into visual and interactive awareness tools. This approach enhances students’ communication and leadership skills, ensuring the graduation of qualified cadres capable of contributing to public health awareness.
The event also highlighted teamwork and integration among the university administration, the Psychological Support and Counseling Center, the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, and the Community Service Committee. This was further demonstrated by the students’ field deployments to engage with the external community, emphasizing the vital importance of combining institutional and community efforts to promote health awareness.
The campaign was conducted under the distinguished academic supervision of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the faculty, led by:
* Prof. Dr. Tharwat El-Khamissy (Head of the Department)
* Prof. Dr. Dalia El-Damasy** (Professor in the Department)
With outstanding assistance from the teaching assistants:
* Mr. Ahmed El-Khateeb(Assistant Lecturer)
* Ms. Marah Hussein(Demonstrator)
Students relied on advanced visual aids, innovative educational flyers, and direct interactive activities. These tools successfully engaged various groups and facilitated the comprehension of scientific messages, proving the youth’s ability to lead positive societal change and build a healthier, more conscious future.
